MY TOY FAIR BLOG
Gibsons Games
Please provide a brief introduction to yourself and the company you work for
I am Managing Director of Gibsons Games, a fourth generation, family business bringing people together with our games and jigsaw puzzles.
What is your favourite part about working in the toy industry?
Being part of something that is focused on human connection and play. They are a friendly bunch too!
Give us the inside scoop, what products are you launching at Toy Fair 2023?
We have so many exciting products lined up for 2024. We are launching a range of Team GB games and puzzles, as well as a jigsaw puzzle commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day whereby a donation for every puzzle sold will go to Help for Heroes. We literally cannot wait to launch our new comic range, Jokesaws! Our puzzlers have been waiting a long time for these and with comedy moments found in every corner of the puzzle, they are sure to be best sellers.
What trends do you predict for the Toy Fair industry in 2023?
I think trends will continue to emerge quickly from Tik Tok for the tween and teen markets. Hopefully the challenges of the last couple of years and pace of change will ease up a bit and a return of consumer confidence. Sustainability will continue to be key for businesses and certainly will remain a big focus for Gibsons as we approach B Corp certification any day now.
How many years have you exhibited at Toy Fair 2023? Any favourite memories?
All of them! There are so many memories! When I was a child and Gibsons were distributors of Uno, we had a Fiat Uno on the stand and a competition to guess how many packs of Uno fit into a Fiat Uno. Trevor and Simon from Saturday morning TV were there to help! Our centenary year was incredibly special too, not to mention the live appearance on BBC London evening news!
What is your favourite toy?
I am a big Jellycat fan and greatly admire what they have done with the brand.
What top tip would you give to a fellow exhibitor or visitor attending their first Toy Fair?
Have fun! Walk the entire exhibition and talk to as many people as you can. There is so much to learn and we are all in the same boat. Join in social things too and utilise the BTHA lounge if you can – it’s a lovely haven of peace and quiet! If you are exhibiting try and grab a slot on Toy Fair TV, who are always happy to shout about your products. And don’t forget to take a break 🙂
