James Galt – part of Jumbo Group

Please provide a brief introduction to yourself and the company you work for
I’ve been in the toy industry for over 20 years and work for James Galt – part of the Jumbo Group – which is historically known for arts & crafts, science and puzzles… From 2024 our portfolio is growing, though!
What is your favourite part about working in the toy industry?
The toys and the people, and the unpredictability of children! I also love that there’s loads of innovation, entrepreneurial opportunities along with many evergreen brands.
Give us the inside scoop, what products are you launching at Toy Fair 2024?
We’re very excited to bring strong new developments within our home portfolios of Galt arts and crafts, including the Natural History Museum partnership. There will be further excitement in the puzzle world, with the unique Wasgij brand and several exciting developments in party games with Hitster Bingo and Party & Co. Plus, we’ll be entering new toy categories, with a secret new development for girls!
What trends do you predict for the Toy Fair industry in 2024?
In the first half, I think we will see a lot of developments in plush. Dolls are likely to be more competitive, we’re likely to see more anime-related products, and I expect we’ll see developments in inclusivity and wellbeing, overlaid with a sustainability focus where possible for manufacturers.
How many years have you exhibited at Toy Fair? Any favourite memories?
Gosh, lots 🙂 and I’ve loved every single time! There’s always something exciting to present and to see, and I never come away disappointed. The BTHA do a fabulous organisational job and the toy characters bring a sense of fun to the grown-up proceedings. The Fence Club party is always good fun, and seeing customers and competitors always feels like getting together with friends. We’re lucky to be in such a great industry.
What is your favourite toy?
One would never be enough…
What top tip would you give to a fellow exhibitor or visitor attending their first Toy Fair?
See as much as you can, talk to as many people as you can fit in, and think like a child not a grown-up!
